New Journalism Journals
Two new journalism journals have arrived at the Library.
Electronic News: A Journal of Applied Research & Ideas (Lawrence Earlbaum), edited by Bob Papper, College of Communication, Information & Media, Ball State University, and C.A. Tuggle, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This new quarterly is "devoted to advancing knowledge and understanding of news as disseminated through electronic media platforms. [It] will promote and publish readily accessible research and ideas that have clear relevance to the content, practice, and administration of electronic news, especially radio, television, and the Internet, and related areas, such as station Web sites. The journal will also provide articles for those who practice and/or teach broadcast/electronic journalism and related topics. The journal will provide both scholars and industry practitioners the opportunity to publish and read applied research, and will include research articles, invited essays, and reviews of books relevant to electronic news as an evolving and dynamic practice Its purpose is "to promote and publish readily accessible research and ideas that have clear relevance to the content, practice, and administration of electronic news (especially radio and television) and related fields (such as station Web."
Journalism Practice (Routledge) will be devoting itself to "the study and analysis of significant issues arising from journalism as a field of professional practice; relevant developments in journalism training and education, as well as the construction of a reflective curriculum for journalism; analysis of journalism practice across the distinctive but converging media platforms of magazines, newspapers, online, radio and television; and the provision of a public space for practice-led, scholarly contributions from journalists as well as academics. Journalism Practice's ambitious scope includes the history of journalism practice; the professional practice of journalism; journalism training and education; journalism practice and new technology; journalism practice and ethics; and journalism practice and policy." It is edited by Bob Franklin, from The Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, Cardiff University.
